Four years in the making, Bird of Paradise's second EP was written by Rachael Ann and produced and mastered in quarantine by Elliot Polokoff. The album features a more guitar-based sound for the synthpop project, due to live collaborations with Sunil Sajwani, who joined the group after a relocation to Los Angeles. The record covers themes of living in locked down urban sprawl while longing for islands and deserts visited in the pre-pandemic past. Artwork by Eric Cyganic Morgan. "On their new EP "Islands," Bird of Paradise shed their old lo-fi sensibilities for a larger, lusher sound; ambitiously tailored to fit a ballroom rather than a bedroom. Rachael Ann's buoyant vocals atop buzzing synths bleed into a wider jangle with the addition of shimmering guitars- as if the Cocteau twins went J-Pop. A deliberate yet delicately arranged production, an errant stride into the light that glares with kaleidoscopic melancholy."- Gabriel Hart, Jail Weddings.
